Rain ruled the night as half of the games slated for tonight were postponed to be made up as doubleheaders on Thursday. But three did get in the books.
Cleburne 6 Kansas City 4
I believe a few days ago in the Takeaways, I bemoaned how the Railroaders were going to have to show some life before they got buried in the East Division. They have done as such, reeling off two wins versus the West leading Monarchs. Delino DeShields Jr. who had been in a funk the first quarter of the season, collected three hits and Frankie Tostado collected three RBIs for the second consecutive game in a row. Aaron Mishoulan picked up the win only allowing three runs in 5.2 innings.
Lincoln 8 Winnipeg 3
The Saltdogs after a horrid start at Haymarket Park are showing some domination in their own yard. The Saltdogs are now 7-11 at home and with the win tonight are sitting in fourth place in the West Division. Cary Arbolida led the Saltdogs attack with a home run and three RBIs raising his average to .308 with a 2-3 effort. Jacob Hughes got the win with two runs allowed in six innings. Noah Marcelo hitting third in the Goldeyes lineup homered twice.
Sioux Falls 13 Sioux City 11
Explorers starter Reed Butz was exposed for six runs in the first two innings, walking five and allowing seven hits. After three innings the Canaries led 10-3 and although the wind was whipping around the Birdcage, the Canaries did not have a long ball tonight. The Explorers struck for five in the fifth to get back in the game, countered by three in the sixth for the Canaries. But the Explorers put a scare in the Canaries scoring three in the ninth. Interesting iScore thing I noticed. Derek Craft pitched five innings and allowed eight runs. He pitched the minimum innings to qualify for the win, and left with the lead which checks the boxes for a win. But the win was awarded to Christian Carew who threw a scoreless sixth. Logically Carew probably pitched better, but I don't think there is scorer's discretion if the starting pitching went five and left with the lead.
(Edit: found out through Tanner Hoops that Craft did not pitch the fifth inning, the pitcher in the fifth did not show up in the boxscore. But let this still be a lesson for you kids out there that will be official scorers someday)
