Full disclosure here, I didn't see much baseball tonight. I finally cut bait on two bags full of old clothes while watching the Stanley Cup. It barely made a dent in the closet. But here's a useless fact, I have t-shirts from every American Association All Star Game I've attended. Onto the takeaways powered by our good friends at iScore.
Lake Country 12 Lincoln 3
Make it 10 in a row for the DockHounds. It took a while to get the bats going as they trailed 3-0 heading into the fifth, but 12 runs in the last five innings to win going away in Lincoln. Every starter for the DockHounds had at least two hits with the second through sixth batters having three hits apiece. Ryan Hernandez kept pace with Jose Sermo with his ninth home run. Joshua Mears (7th) and Peter Zimmerman (6th) also went deep. Did I miss something? I noticed at the end of the DockHounds broadcast that Dominic Stearn was calling Kamp Oconomowoc, DockHounds Ballpark. Did the sponsorship with Wisconsin Brewing Company end? I would be all right if they would've renamed it Kamp Oconomowoc. It rolls off the tongue better.
Kane County 4 Cleburne 2
The Cougars pick up their second win in a row in Texas. It was knotted at two going into the top of the ninth, but two runs by the Cougars, one unearned proved to be the difference. Once again the Cougars shut down the Railroaders with five pitchers combining to allow just five Railroaders hits. Jake Gozzo picked up the save, his fourth. Gozzo has now thrown seven innings allowing just three hits and striking out 10. It looks like the bullpen will be a strength once again for the Cougars.
Kansas City 6 Fargo-Moorhead 5
The RedHawks were able to muster up some offense in the series finale, coming back from a 5-1 deficit to tie the game in the ninth. But, a Sahid Valenzuela single in the last of the ninth to plate the walk off run. Jose Sermo hit his ninth home run in the losing effort for the RedHawks.
Gary SouthShore 5 Sioux City 4
Folks, these aren't the RailCats that we've gotten to know the last few years. With the sweep at Lewis and Clark Park, the RailCats are now 10-8 sitting firmly in third place in the East Division. Cooper Edwards and Korry Howell made a great 9-1 combo going 5-10 with two RBI in the victory. We've only hit the 20 game mark in the season, but there has to be worry settling in with the Explorers. They have now dropped five games in a row and are headed to Winnipeg where it sounds like visa issues will once again plague the Explorers in Canada. Fargo-Moorhead and Lincoln sputtering has kept them from sinking too far in the standings.
Milwaukee 6 Chicago 5
Three late runs allowed the Milkmen to overtake the Dogs and win the rubber game of the series at Franklin Field. After two hitless games, Michael Hallquist has had two hit games in his last four games to bump his batting average up to .372.
Winnipeg 14 Sioux Falls 3
It took a while for the Goldeyes to get going, but when they did, they didn't look back, earning a split of the series with the Canaries. The bottom of the order for the Goldeyes did most of the damage with the last three batters combining for 10 RBI with five from T.J. Schofield-Sam. Both teams smell blood as the reeling Explorers head to Blue Cross Park for the weekend. Meanwhile after a pit stop home, the Canaries will be in Lincoln looking to replicate their season opening sweep of the Saltdogs.
