American Association Insider: Sunday June 14th Takeaways

 Lake Country 5 Lincoln 1

The DockHounds rebound from a two game hiccup that ended their 14 game winning streak by taking the last two games of the weekend from the Saltdogs. The DockHounds suffered a blow though as the contract of Luke Hansel was transferred to the Colorado Rockies. Hansel was 4-1 with a 2.76 ERA and in this league that is incredible and more than deserving of a signing. I don't doubt Ken Huckaby's ability to find a replacement as he has come up golden more than once in his DockHounds tenure.

Gary SouthShore 2 Kane County 1

In a game of anomalies, the RailCats won an American Association game today where the two teams only combined for three runs. In another anomaly Konor Ash lost his second start in a row. But the second where he didn't get run support. Ash went eight innings allowing two runs. Deyni Olivero threw eight innings allowing six hits. In his last four starts, Olivero is 3-0 allowing four runs in 25 innings following a tough start of the season.

Winnipeg 13 Fargo-Moorhead 10 (10 innings)

In a game that is more in line to how this season is going, the Goldeyes outlasted the RedHawks at Newman Outdoor Field. After scoring four runs in the top of the ninth, the Goldeyes lead evaporated on a three run home run by Colby Wilkerson and a solo home run by Carlos Amaya back to back to tie the game. Amaya has been a nice addition to the team, hitting .348 after being acquired for cash from Kane County.

Milwaukee 8 Chicago 6

The Milkmen racked up their fifth win in a row and swept the Dogs on the road. After being a two team race in the East, the Milkmen are now sitting just a half game out of second place. The Milkmen were down 5-0 at one time in this one, but a five run fifth inning erased the lead. If Griffin Doersching doesn't win hitter of the week, this may be my last blog. For the week, Doersching for week went 10-21 at the plate with six home runs and 15 runs batted in. Today it was a two home run effort victimizing Andres Diaz in the fourth and seventh innings.

Sioux City 5 Cleburne 0

Peniel Otano went the distance shutting out the Railroaders on six hits, picking up his second win of the week, which in this league should put him in prime position to get pitcher of the week. Braulio Vasquez and Jackson Van De Brake both knocked in a pair of runs in the winning effort for the Explorers.

Sioux Falls 8 Kansas City 6

You hate to call a game on June 14 a must win game, but after being humiliated in two consecutive games at home, the Canaries needed to have an answer for the Monarchs, and they did, staving off a late rally to defeat the Monarchs. Remember when we were thinking the Monarchs would be a team that was going to win with pitching? After this week, the 1-7 batters on the Monarchs are hitting .295 or better. Anthony Hall paced the Canaries today with three runs batted and three hits. Players like Hall will need to keep picking up the slack until Josh Rehwaldt and Jabari Henry can return. Dylan Kirkeby picked up his second win in his last three starts throwing five innings of one run ball.
