American Association Insider: Friday June 12 takeaways
Hot take here. With all the scoring in the league thus far in 2026, I think we are seeing the remnants of what happens when any pitcher that shows potential is getting snapped up by a Mexican League team or an MLB organization. What's left is not a good look for the league with games resembling softball scores. In six games tonight, a total of 99 runs were scored. I doubt that's a record that is kept track of, but if it was, I'd guess tonight would be the record.
As an FYI, I will not have anything for tomorrow's games as I will be away celebrating my wedding anniversary.
Gary SouthShore 10 Kane County 3
I don't know what it is, but no matter how the RailCats are playing, they seem to have the number of the Cougars. Tonight was no exception as seven runs combined in the fifth and sixth innings was the difference in a RailCats road victory. Peyton Long who pitched seven innings for the third time in fourth starts, picked up his fourth straight victory.
Lincoln 9 Lake Country 6
There's a reason one should never gamble on American Association games. Tonight is one of those reasons. Lincoln, hovering around the bottom of the West Division takes down the high flying Lake Country DockHounds fresh off a 14 game winning streak. The Saltdogs homered four times in the first six innings to beat the Hounds at their own game. Ryan Hernandez homered twice for the DockHounds, his league leading 11th and 12th of the season.
Milwaukee 8 Chicago 6
Down 6-2 after six innings, the Milkmen bats came alive in the seventh inning scoring five times to take the lead. It wouldn't be this week if Griffin Doersching didn't have a hand in the rally as his two run double tied the game. Doersching now has landed in fifth place in AAPB for runs batted in with 25. The Milkmen bullpen held the Dogs without a hit in the final three innings.
Sioux City 13 Cleburne 11
As much as I bemoan the lack of pitching, it has led to classics such as the one in Sioux City tonight. The Railroaders jumped out to a 8-0 lead after a half inning. The X's ut the lead in half at 8-4 before the Railroaders scored three more to take a 11-4 lead. From there it was all X's. They scored six in the fifth to make it an 11-10 game. You thought it was the Railroaders night as an Explorers runner was tagged out trying to score on a wild pitch in the eighth, but all it did was set the stage for the ninth. With two outs and Henry George on first base, Braulio Vasquez singled, but with the outfield playing deep in no doubles formation, George kept running and scored to tie the game. Alberto Osuna followed with a walkoff two run home run. The second time Sioux City has won in walkoff home run fashion in 2026. The teams converged on the field after the home run, with just words exchanged. This should be an interesting next two games in Sioux City.
Fargo Moorhead 10 Winnipeg 2
The RedHawks bats stay hot, this time, they were able to hold their opponent to two as the RedHawks win Chapter 1 of the RedHawks vs. Goldeyes rivalry for 2026. Juan Fernandez and Tripp Clark both homered and five RedHawks collected two hits. Kyle Crigger in spite of giving up eight hits and five walks, got through six innings to get the win and gave the beat up RedHawks bullpen a needed rest as two pitchers got the final nine outs.
Kansas City 16 Sioux Falls 5
The Monarchs only were able to get 16 runs tonight and have now only averaged 20.5 runs in their last two games. This game was actually within reach for the Canaries at 7-5 after seven innings but it was a snowman on the scoreboard for the Monarchs in the eighth that blew this game open. Marcus Smith homered twice and drove in seven runs to pace the Monarchs. Dakota Hudson got the win going six innings though the Canaries were able to touch him up for four runs, three earned. Hudson is now 5-1 for the season.
