American Association Insider: Thursday May 28 takeaways

Kane County 5 Sioux Falls 2

If you're a Canaries fan, you should be concerned about the lack of offense in this three game series. The Canaries, an offensive juggernaut early in the season was shut down by a Cougars staff who have done that to many a team thus far in 2026. Konnor Ash is back doing Konnor Ash things going eight shutout innings to pick up the win. You know how they say in hockey, rivalries develop in the playoffs? I think you could say for two teams that do not play each other much, there is a rivalry after last season. The two teams meet in Sioux Falls the last weekend in June. It should be a doozie. If you're coming in from out of town that weekend, be warned. Due to a music fest at the fairgrounds hotels are beyond pricy.

Gary SouthShore 9 Winnipeg 3

Peyton Long threw seven innings allowing two runs for yet another good start as the RailCats once again defeat the Goldeyes. Long has thrown seven innings his last two starts. The RailCats scored six times in the third inning to put this game away early. Give Mitch Lambson credit as he gave the Goldeyes two shutout innings after the rocky third to save the Goldeyes bullpen.

Chicago 4 Cleburne 1

Single runs in four different innings got the job done for the Dogs tonight as they knocked off Fargo to sweep the three game series. Andres Diaz went the distance for the Dogs allowing the one run. Take out a rough outing in Sioux Falls last Friday and Diaz has given the Dogs two incredible starts. Two more hits for Chance Sisco to run his average up to .372. He has to be an early favorite to chase down a batting title.

Sioux City 7 Milwaukee 4

It's a shame these two clubs do not meet again in 2026, because this four game set produced some knock down drag out affairs. I remember often last year saying that the one piece Sioux City was missing last year was a slugger in the middle of the order. I think the Explorers have filled that void this season. Braulio Vasquez slugged his fourth home run of this season in dramatic fashion. A three run no doubter as the Explorers walked off the Milkmen after the Milkmen had rallied to tie the game in the top of the ninth. The Explorers found a way to gain a split. I keep hearing about the visa list players. If the X's can tread water till those guys can come in, it could be a special season.

Lake Country 20 Fargo-Moorhead 4

For a team playing in a bandbox like Kamp Oconowoc, it seems odd that the record for most runs scored in a game was set on the road. Helped in part from six DockHounds being hit by pitchs. The DockHounds have quite a 1-2 force in the middle of the lineup with Ryan Hernandez and Joshua Mears. All they did tonight was go a combined 6-12 with nine runs batted in and five runs scored. Mears had a home run. The RedHawks coming off being swept at home, will head down to Sioux Falls for a rematch of the West Division Finals on Friday night in what should be a fun weekend series.
