American Association Insider: Saturday May 30 Takeaways
Well, if last night was a tough one to write, this shouldn't go much better. I had no idea until today that Lincoln turned a triple play. Hard to find that on iSore. Tonight was a David Spade concert at Mystic Lake Casino in Prior Lake or as Spade called it, Lake Prior.
Lake Country 3 Milwaukee 2
The Kamp Oconomowoc Lumber Company had a slow night only scoring three runs, two of them on solo home runs. The crushing blow with a dramatic home run in the last of the eighth by Joshua Mears that broke a 2-2 deadlock.
Kansas City 4 Sioux City 0
A four spot in the Monarchs second inning was the only scoring to be had in this one. This week will not go on the Zach Willeman highlight reel as he pitched 8.2 innings this week, allowing 12 runs in going 0-2. Nothing to panic about yet. All it takes is two bad outings early in the year to skew a pitcher's ERA that may take a while to whittle down. Four Monarch hurlers combined on the shutout allowing five hits and striking out 14 Explorers.
Lincoln 5 Kane County 2
A nice bounce back victory for the Saltys as they scored four runs early and were never in trouble in taking the middle game of the weekend set. Haden Erbe had his best outing of the season going seven innings, only allowing two hits and striking out eight Cougars.
Winnipeg 12 Chicago 5
It was the Noah Marcelo show at Impact Field on Saturday night. Marcelo went 4-5 with two home runs and five runs batted in. Marcelo has a 12 game hitting streak extending back to his second game of the season. Marcelo may be that spark at the top of the lineup card that the Goldeyes have been looking for since Dayson Croes.
Sioux Falls 9 Fargo-Moorhead 3
The Canaries did not waste time shaking out of their offensive funk, scoring five runs in the first inning. Three runs on the strength of a Michael Curaille home run with one out. There has been something missing in the Canaries offense the last week. With Jordan Barth now in the baseball entertainment industry, the void at shortstop is there waiting to be filled. Can Curaille become the man?
Gary SouthShore 4 Cleburne 3
The Railroaders cannot get out of Chicagoland fast enough. This time it's a walk off loss after coming back from a 3-1 deficit to tie the game going into the ninth. The hero for the RailCats was Nick Podkul who going into his game winning walk off home run at bat was 7-44 at the plate this season. Could there be some moves on the horizon for manager Pete Incaviglia when the Railroaders get back home? The Railroaders are tied with Lincoln at 5-10 for the worst record in the league. Not a spot this proud organization is used to.
