American Association Insider: Saturday May 23 Takeaways
Folks, I'm going to keep this brief. For full disclosure I watched one game and then was focused on the Clark Cup playoff game between Sioux Falls and Muskegon. Sioux Falls wins in overtime and brings the Clark Cup back to Sioux Falls. Whatever infection I have is still kicking my ass. I feel like I took a fastball to my eye. So here it is.
Kansas City 6 Lake Country 5 (10 innings)
The Monarchs take their fourth win in five games on the current homestand. If they continue to establish home dominance, they will once again be a force in an ultra competitive West Division.
Sioux City 5 Lincoln 2
The Explorers bounce back from a tough loss on Friday in front of a good crowd by Sioux City standards of 1602. Ben DeTaeye gets the win out of the bullpen tossing 3.2 innings of scoreless baseball. There are a couple of spots in the rotation that are not locks for the Explorers. Could DeTaeye be considered a candidate to get strtetched out and see what he can do?
Winnipeg 5 Milwaukee 2
Juan Diaz was victimized by three unearned runs in taking the loss. His ERA is 2.31. Not a bad start. Milwaukee looked sharp in the new gray tops. And while I'm at it, does anyone else get annoyed with teams that wear the powder blue tops with gray pants. Choose your era, 70's or 90's.
Sioux Falls 4 Chicago 2
If the Dogs were a rock band, they'd be known as one hit wonders. As the Dogs with only one hit were able to stay in the game until the Canaries scored 2 runs on a bad hop single to take the lead for good.
Cleburne 1 Gary SouthShore 0
Leam Mendez gave the Railroaders what they needed, six shutout innings as the Railroaders evened up the series with the RailCats.
Kane County 4 Fargo-Moorhead 2 (Game One)
Konnor Ash did not get through six innings in his second consecutive start but his two run effort was enough to give the Cougars a win in Game One of a Doubleheader. The two real good hitting teams only managed 10 combined hits in seven innings.
Kane County 7 Fargo-Moorhead 6 (Game Two)
The Cougars, down by two runs heading in the seventh inning, score three to take the lead. The winning run scoring after a Todd Lott fly ball deep in the right field corner was dropped for a two base error, dampening the spirits of the fans that stuck around for fireworks. The Cougars guaranteed a winning road trip, one they will never forget.
