American Association Insider: Miles Wolff Cup Playoffs Night Three

If there is something I've learned in the last week, it's that I'm no Lee Corso when it comes to picking winners of American Association Playoff Series. Three decisive Game Three's tonight, only one of which had late game suspense. But we are now on to the Division Finals starting on Monday. Enjoy your NFL Sunday and be ready to get at it on Monday Night.

Sioux Falls 7 Sioux City 1

Whatever it was that the Canaries found in the seventh inning last night in Sioux City, they best make sure they bottled it and bring it to the ballpark on Monday. I can remember driving home from a Minnesota Gophers football game in 1993. The late Jim Wacker was the Gophers coach and more times than often, salesman and pitch guy. After a win, Wacker said, "Great players got to play great games". I thought of this tonight as Jabari Henry homered three times and drove in five runs and Ryan Zimmerman allowed just one run in six innings of work to lead the Canaries to Round Two. The third home run was off reliever of the year Felix Cepeda who was in strange territory in the seventh inning, manager Steve Montgomery using all possible bullets.

Kane County 3 Milwaukee 2

In the game of the night, the Milkmen jumped out to a 2-0 lead as Parker Lester and Chase Estep drove in runs. But the Cougars got those runs back in the fourth with a Zane Spinn single driving in the tying run. From there it was a pitcher's duel as the Milkmen pen allowed three hits, with the Cougars allowing just two. But Claudio Finol singled in the Cougars' ninth, advanced to second on a Nick Delasandro single. Two wild pitches by the Milkmen allowed Finol to score ending the Milkmen's Cinderella like late season run.

Fargo-Moorhead 6 Kansas City 0

In the end, it may have been the signing of Julian Garcia that may have cost the Monarchs the series. Instead of Josh Hendrickson pitching Game Three, it was Ashton Goudeau. Goudeau only got through three innings allowing the RedHawks to get to a 3-0 lead on a two run Jose Sermo single in the third inning. Juan Fernandez put the game out of reach with a two run double to make it 5-0. Tyler Jandron threw six shutout innings for the RedHawks with Tyler Jeans going the rest of the way pitching three hitless innings to get the save.
