American Association Insider: Miles Wolff Cup Playoffs Night Two
After an interesting night one, four teams went into Friday night in a win or else situation. Not ideal, but keep in mind a line that I heard from the former Minnesota Hockey coach Don Lucia, "the toughest game to win is the one that ends the other team's season".
Milwaukee 12 Kane County 0
For anyone that was wondering if the Kane County Cougars were ever going to lose a playoff game again, that question was answered early and often at Northwestern Medicine Field on Friday night. The Milkmen jumped out to a 3-0 lead and chased Cougars starter Chris Mazza in the first inning only recording one out. Any doubt about the outcome were erased in the fifth and sixth inning when the Milkmen added seven more runs. Jhordany Mezquita only had to go five innings for the Milkmen only allowing two hits for the night. Andy Blake homered and drove in four runs as part of a four hit night to lead the Milkmen.
Chicago 4 Lake Country 0
Jacob Teter reached on an error and scored on the front end of a T.J. Hopkins first inning home run. That was all the scoring the Dogs needed to put an end to the DockHounds season. Brady Miller who had only pitched twice since June 6th was dominant in seven innings pitched allowing two hits and striking out six. The DockHounds have played two home games total in two playoff appearances and have scored one run. Pretty incredible when you consider the teams the DockHounds have put together in a hitter friendly park.
Sioux Falls 16 Sioux City 8
If you were a Canaries fan and I told you that the Canaries were going to give up eight runs, sixteen hits and commit four errors, would you be likely to get ready for the Sioux Falls Stampede hockey season? Well, the Canaries overcame everything, rallying with four runs in the seventh to take the lead and ten more runs in the eighth to pull away from the Explorers forcing a decisive Game Three tomorrow night. Mike Hart doubled in two runs and Jabari Henry drove in the run to give the Canaries the lead in the seventh. All the damage against a strong Explorers bullpen. In the eighth, Josh Rehwaldt drove in five runs with a double and a home run. Trevor Achenbach also chipped in with a two run home run. Jordan Barth went 4-5 with three runs batted in for the Canaries. Zac Vooletich went 3-5 with two doubles for the Explorers. Sioux City stole seven bases. It will be Jake Wetherbee for the Explorers against the Canaries Ryan Zimmerman tomorrow night.
Kansas City 4 Fargo-Moorhead 3 (15 innings)
Two of the heavyweights of the West Division traded blows and this one went late into the night. After zeroes littered the scoreboard at Legends Field, the RedHawks took the lead in the top of the 15th. Aidan Byrne converted on a safety squeeze to score Juan Fernandez. But the Monarchs struck back against RedHawks closer Garrett Alexander. Yoyner Fajardo who entered the game in extra innings as a pinch runner, doubled a run in to tie the game. With Fajardo on third base, Alexander threw his second wild pitch of the inning to score Fajardo to force a third game. Tyler Jandron gets the call for the RedHawks tomorrow night versus the Monarchs Ashton Goudeau.
