American Association Insider: August 30, 2025

Since I'm on vacation in Wisconsin Dells, I'm going to go with a different format for tonight's recaps. We'll analyze what the results mean in the big picture.

Lincoln 12 Gary SouthShore 1

As far as standings go, this one meant nothing. But Lincoln may have found something in Franny Cobos who won his sixth game of the season and saw his ERA go under four run per game for the first time all season.

Sioux Falls 4 Fargo Moorhead 2

With the win, Sioux Falls stayed a game behind Kansas City for second place and jumped a game ahead of the RedHawks for third place. Thomas Dorminy won his 11th game to tie Jake Dykhoff for the league lead. After his home run tonight, Jordan Barth will have two games to go for 20 for the season after never having more than 12 in a season.

Milwaukee 9 Lake Country 6

The Milkmen remain the hottest team in the American Association. Their magic number for a playoff spot is now one game. Another win over the DockHounds or a Cleburne Railroaders loss will put the Milkmen in the playoffs, even after trading their hottest commodity on Erik Ostberg who has had no luck in Fargo-Moorhead going 5-51 since the trade.

Sioux City 7 Winnipeg 3

The Explorers found their mojo after being flat for the last two games after clinching the West Division. J.D. Scholten made the best of his audition for a post season spot allowing two runs in five innings. Henry George, known for his speed has four home runs in August and nine for the season. With the loss the Goldeyes are now only a half game up on Lincoln for fifth place.

Kansas City 3 Cleburne 0

Josh Hendrickson won his tenth game going six innings, helping the Monarchs stick a sharp dagger in the Railroaders playoff hopes. We talked about how tough it was going to be down the stretch for the Railroaders with a steady diet of West Division teams, and it has proven to likely being fatal. The Railroaders will have to win their last two games and hope Milwaukee drops two in a row to Lake Country.
Cleburne has lost 13 of 18 in this stretch of games versus the West Division.

Kane County 5 Chicago 2

The Cougars with the win have clinched a playoff spot. Milwaukee could catch the Cougars for third if the Cougars lose their last two games and Milwaukee wins their last two. With the loss and the fact that the Dogs will only play 99 games due to a rainout versus Winnipeg that could not be made up, the Lake Country DockHounds have clinched the East Division. Who do you face if you're the DockHounds? Chicago is a fierce rivalry and are the only other team in the East with a winning record. Pick Kane County and you're dealing with Konnor Ash in Game one. Remember how that went last year with Greg Mahle pitching against the DockHounds at Kamp Oconomowoc? Pick Milwaukee if they can clinch, and you're facing the hottest team in the league. Pick your poison, Hounds.

There will be no Sunday Insider as I will focus on a First Round Playoff Preview to come out on Tuesday night. It's going to be different not having 15 minute shows with all the broadcasters before Round One.
