American Association Insider: August 28, 2025

It was a sleepy Thursday night weather wise and personally. After snoozing for a few hours, I woke to see that the game I began watching, Kane County vs. Gary SouthShore was still going.

Kane County 8 Gary SouthShore 7 (12 innings)

A walkoff walk from Josh Allen, who ran several incredible wide receiver patterns avoiding being doused by the water jug, knocked down the magic number to one for making the playoffs. In a back and forth affair, it was a ninth inning double by Marcus Chiu that pushed the game to extra frames. Xavier Valentin had three hits for the RailCats to pace both clubs.

Lincoln 9 Cleburne 3

The Saltdogs closed the home portion of their schedule giving 1582 fans at Haymarket Park one last good memory for the Summer. The loss eventually landed the Railroaders out of a playoff spot for now as they are headed to Legends Field for four games to wrap up the regular season. Kyle Martin hit his 27th for the Railroaders. Kyle Battle drove in three runs for the Saltdogs.

Lake Country 5 Chicago 2

Oconomowoc, you may have got your team back. The DockHounds behind a two run home run from Aaron Hill and six innings of two run ball from Gabriel Aguilera finished the sweep of the second place Dogs. Hill had three hits on the night as did the Dogs' Johnni Turbo.

Milwaukee 3 Kansas City 2 (10 innings)

After leading 2-0 in the second inning, the Milkmen fell victim to a John Nogowski home run and a sacrifice fly to tie the game. But the Milkmen plated their runner in the 10th inning and shut down the Monarchs to gain the sweep. With the win, the Monarchs are now half a game ahead of the Railroaders. The Milkmen have a challenging 24 hours though. After bussing home in the overnight, the Milkmen host first place Lake Country for a double header on Friday night.

Fargo Moorhead 5 Winnipeg 4

The RedHawks jumped out to an early 5-0 lead and withheld a Goldeyes rally late to give Jake Dykhoff his league leading 11th win of the season. It is likely Dykhoff will end up with the league lead in wins. Konnor Ash had a no decision for Kane County in his last start of the season. Thomas Dorminy has a chance to catch Dykhoff as he would be scheduled to throw on Sunday. Hard to say how long he'll pitch if at all. Depends on if the Canaries want him to throw Game one or Game two next week. Dykhoff allowed one run in seven innings. Dykhoff now has nine wins since joining the rotation in late June and has me doubting my pick for pitcher of the year.

Sioux Falls 13 Sioux City 4

In what would be considered a hangover game for the Explorers, the Canaries pounced on the X's for thirteen runs in the first three innings to leave the game with zero suspense. Josh Rehwaldt went 3-6 and Matt Bottcher drove in three runs to lead the Canaries attack. Matt Solter picked up his first win with the Canaries allowing a single run in five innings.
