In Minnesota, it's State Fair time, which is where I was today. Yet there I was at the Fair keeping tabs on the day's action. Five game including two matinees were featured on Thursday.

Sioux Falls 9 Cleburne 3

The Canaries built an 8-0 lead after three innings and cruised to an easy victory in an early start in Texas. Jordan Barth doubled two runs and scored a run in the first inning. Rookies struck in the third as Drey Dirksen had an RBI single followed by a two run ground rule double to put the game out of reach. Dirksen added a home run in fifth. The lone highlight of the day for the Railroaders was a two run Aaron Altherr home run. Cole LaLonde picked up the win allowing one run in five innings.

Fargo-Moorhead 6 Gary SouthShore 0

Jake Dykhoff was not getting paid by the pitch today as it only took him 86 pitches to throw a shutout for his 10th win of the season. Jose Sermo had a three run home run in the third inning that provided ample run support of Dykhoff.

Milwaukee 2 Kane County 1

Mitchell Sanford had a two run single to give the Milkmen a 2-1 lead in the seventh and it would remain that way the rest of the game. The Milkmen are now three games behind Cleburne with the Railroaders hosting surging Kansas City while the Milkmen go to last place Gary SouthShore. We could have a dog fight for the last playoff spot in the East. Matt Walker who has struggled this season in spite of a 6-3 record gave the Milkmen seven innings of one run, five hit ball. Jack Fox allowed the two runs in six plus innings for the Cougars.

Sioux City 7 Lincoln 5

It was pain, blues and agony for the Explorers for the better part of the game tonight as errors contributed to the Saltdogs building up a 5-1 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth. From there a combo of Saltdogs miscues and the Explorers coming to life, led to the first place Explorers picking up a half game on idle Kansas City. It was a Michael Quinones single, his first as an Explorer that put the X's up for good in the eighth. The X's found a way to win in spite of only getting five hits. We know this team can really run, but five hits against a not so great pitching staff in Lincoln is alarming. What are they going to do when they face their playoff opponents top two starters in a three game series? Danny Bautista Jr. homered for Lincoln, while Zach Vooletich did so for the X's.

Chicago 4 Lake Country 3 (12 innings)

The race for fourth place isn't the only one that's heating up in the East. The Dogs are now only three behind the DockHounds after the second walk off win in three games. It's going to be tough for the Dogs to make up games this weekend though as the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks pay a visit. But, Kane County goes to Oconomowoc and one of those games will be a Konnor Ash start. Key parts of the extra innings was a 10 pitch at bat for Derek Maiben that was interrupted for a fireworks delay. Maiben struck out after play resumed. Henry Kusiak was the hero for the Dogs with an RBI walkoff single in the Dogs half of the 12th. Brian Rey hit his 15th home run for the DockHounds while Brantley Bell hit his 11th for the Dogs.
