American Association Insider: August 2, 2025
Sorry for the very late recaps if you were expecting them on Saturday night. If you're reading this on Sunday, we're all good. I was at historic Carson Park in Eau Claire, Wisconsin for a NWL game. Though I mostly go to soak up the atmosphere that was once home to Hank Aaron. The Northern League struck out in not nabbing the Eau Claire market. Though nowadays, Carson Park would not be up to American Association standards.
Lake Country 12 Gary SouthShore 1
The DockHounds once again take down the Railcats. There was no doubt in this one as the DockHounds put up a touchdown and an extra points and cruised from there. The DockHounds hit nine doubles with three players hitting two apiece.
Winnipeg 7 Milwaukee 1
The puzzling nature of the Milkmen continue as they lost their second in a row to the Goldeyes, and their third game overall after a five game winning streak. Max Murphy hit his 100th home run for his Goldeyes career. The Goldeyes scored four in the first and never looked back. James Bradwell got his first win going 7.1 innings allowing one run.
Chicago 4 Cleburne 1
The swoon continues for the Railroaders as they lost their seventh game of their last eight with their loss to the Dogs at Impact Field. The Railroaders shook up the batting order and still managed only five hits. T.J. Hopkins homered for the Dogs and Keoni Cavaco allowed just two hits in six shutout innings to pick up his fourth win.
Lincoln 16 Sioux City 4
In the words of the late American philosopher Virgil Riley Runnels Jr., this one was a clubbering. The Saltdogs scored four runs in the first and second innings highlighted by a Gus Sosa grand slam in the second inning. Five of the 16 runs were unearned as the Explorers committed an uncharacteristic five errors. Plus Explorers pitchers walked ten batters and only held the Saltdogs scoreless in two of the eight innings. All in all a rough night for the first place team at Haymarket Park.
Fargo-Moorhead 2 Kane County 1
It was another 2-1 game between two of the hottest teams in the American Association at Northwestern Medicine Field. The two run scoring hits for the RedHawks came from their bottom two hitters in the order, Nicholas Northcut and Aiden Byrne. Todd Lott, who else, knocked in the only run of the game for the Cougars.
Kansas City 2 Sioux Falls 1
The Monarchs did something no other team in the American Association has done this year, put a loss on Thomas Dorminy in front of an alleged 3667 at Legends Field. Dorminy deserved a better fate going seven innings allowing both runs, one earned. Four Monarchs hurlers combined to only allow a Calvin Estrada solo home run and four hits in all.
