American Association Insider: August 16, 2025

We got all six games in tonight, but the Chicagoland area games became what Chris Berman used to refer to as the Hotel California games as they were completed late in the night.

Sioux City 6 Winnipeg 5

An Abdiel Layer single capped off a two run rally in the eighth inning to propel the Explorers ahead for good. D'Shawn Knowles homered to get the Explorers within a run in the sixth. Torin Montgomery's three run home run had given the Explorers the lead in the fourth inning before Winnipeg responded with three in the fifth. Four X's relievers combined to throw five shutout innings, with Chase Jessee getting the win and Felix Cepeda notching his league leading 22nd save.

Lincoln 7 Sioux Falls 2

It looked good for the Canaries for a while. Matt Solter made his return to the American Association, making his debut for the Canaries and allowing only a run in five innings. But, the ball was handed over to Cade Torgerson, the man Solter replaced in the rotation. Torgerson allowed pairs of runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth to allow the Saltdogs to rally to victory. Rolando Espinosa homered and drove in three and Kyle Battle drove in three runs for the Saltdogs.

Fargo-Moorhead 3 Cleburne 2 (10 innings)

Is there a hotter hitter in the American Association than Michael Hallquist? Hallquist had two more hits tonight with the second one a walkoff double. Hallquist is riding an 11 game hitting streak that includes six 2 hit games, and three home runs and 10 runs driven in, usually in clutch spots. Both starters threw well with Dakota Chalmers and Tyler Jandron both going six innings allowing only one run.

Milwaukee 1 Lake Country 0

There were more zeros at Kamp Oconomowoc tonight than... fill in your own punchline. It took until the top of the ninth inning when Parker Lester dunked a single down the left field line to score the only run of the game. Both pitchers, Davis Welch of Milwaukee and Luke Hansel threw seven shutout innings with Hansel striking out ten Milkmen.

Gary SouthShore 3 Chicago 2

For the first time in nearly two calendar years, the RailCats have won a series at Impact Field after breaking an 11 game losing streak at Rosemont last night. The difference in the game was a run scoring double by Marcos Gonzalez to drive in Elvis Peralta. Dawson Lane gets the win for the RailCats after entering the game following a 90 plus minute rain delay going 6.2 innings allowing two runs and striking out ten, it was his fifth win and third in a row since becoming a starter although tonight was a start in length only, as he came in after there was one out in the first inning. Gonzalez also homered for the RailCats.

Kansas City 9 Kane County 2

As soon as I make mention of the Cougars dominance of the Cougars at Northwestern Medicine Field, the Monarchs make a statement with a statement victory after a long rain delay. Julian Garcia picked up his ninth win allowing two unearned runs and striking out eight more batters. Garcia now has 149 strikeouts and is on pace to break Tyler Alexander's record of 167. John Nogowski homered and drove in four while Robbie Glendinning homered and drove in three for the Monarchs.
