American Association Insider: August 13, 2025
Wild Wednesday night in the Association as two games were decided by home runs in the ninth inning, one in walkoff fashion.
Chicago 5 Gary SouthShore 0 (Game 1)
Jacob Teter and Chance Sisco both drove in runs in the first inning. That was all that Bryce Schaum would need as the Dogs hurler went all seven innings in the first game of the double header, only allowing two hits. Sisco topped of the scoring in the fifth inning with a two run home run.
Gary SouthShore 7 Chicago 1 (Game 2)
The RailCats turned the tables in Game two scoring seven runs in the first three innings to put the Dogs away. Jake Guenther hit a two run homer and drove in three runs and Olivier Basabe had three hits for the RailCats. Peyton Long went the distance for the RailCats allowing one run on six hits to pick up his second straight win and sixth for the season. Long's ERA is now under four runs at 3.98. Could he be a trade chip?
Lake Country 2 Kane County 1
A Freddie Rojas Jr. bases loaded walk in the sixth inning proved to be the difference as the DockHounds bounced back from a tough loss yesterday to defeat the Cougars at Northwestern Medicine Field. Dominic Cancellieri picked up his fourth win allowing one run in 5.2 innings. Nick Dalesandro went 3-4 for the Cougars.
Kansas City 5 Milwaukee 0
Micah Pries homered in his third consecutive game and Blake Goldsberry went eight innings of shutout ball allowing four hits to pick up his sixth win in seven decisions as the Monarchs defeated the Milkmen for the second straight night at Franklin Field. The win was the fourth in a row for the Monarchs.
Lincoln 9 Sioux Falls 8
Spencer Henson connected for his second home run of the night, a walk off solo home run as the Saltdogs came back from an 8-2 deficit in the fifth inning to knock off the Canaries at Haymarket Park. Henson also hit a grand slam in the fifth to pull the Saltdogs to a two run deficit at the time at 8-6. Drey Dirksen hit a three run home run for the Canaries while Jabari Henry hit his 20th to pull within three of league leader Kyle Martin. Henry now has 20 plus home runs in four different seasons after hitting 19 in each of the last two seasons.
Cleburne 10 Winnipeg 8
A seven run third inning highlighted by a three run home run by Andres Sosa put the Railroaders ahead for good as they held off the Goldeyes at Blue Cross Park. Chris Kwitzer drove in three runs for the Railroaders. Jacob Robson homered and Ramon Bramasco drove in three runs for the Goldeyes. It was not a good follow up for James Bradwell following his nine inning no hit effort last week as he didn't get through the third inning allowing six runs.
Sioux City 2 Fargo-Moorhead 1
In the game of the night and the reason I didn't get these recaps done much earlier as I was locked into the game, the Explorers clinched a playoff spot with the win, the first team to clinch a spot. If I told you a recent acquisition paid dividends in a win in this series, you'd guess Erik Ostberg. You'd be wrong as the Explorers' recent pick up Maikol Escotto hit a solo home run with two outs in the top of the ninth inning to give the Explorers the lead for good. Both starters, Kyle Marman (one run in six innings) and Kolby Kiser (one run in seven innings) were both spectacular. Ben Ditaye picked up his first pro win pitching two shutout innings, getting out of a first and third no out jam in the seventh to keep the game tied. Felix Cepeda picked up his league leading 21st save with a perfect ninth inning lowering his ERA to 1.18
