Two day games and four under the lights on this Saturday in the Association.
Cleburne 14 Lake Country 8 (10 innings)
After what had to be an agonizing stretch for the Railroaders, they finally got one against Lake Country going to extra innings to do it. It looked like an easy go of it as the Roaders had a 7-2 lead after the top of the seventh. The DockHounds weren't going to be denied, scoring four in the eighth and another in the ninth to force extra frames. The Roaders hung a seven in the tenth to finish off the DockHounds. Dustin Peterson went 4-5 with two home runs and Jesus Lujano continued a hot streak at the plate going 3-6 (nine hits in the last three games). Shed Long, Cooper Weiss and Andres Sosa with a grand slam all homered for the Roaders. Daunte Stuart's game tying home run was part of a three home day for the DockHounds with Brian Rey and Aaron Hill all connecting. Stuart led the DockHounds collecting three hits.
Winnipeg 4 Fargo-Moorhead 1
Three Goldeyes pitchers combined to allow just four RedHawks hits. Matthew Warkentin and Max Murphy both hit solo home runs for the Goldeyes as they took the second game of the series on Saturday afternoon at Newman Outdoor Field. In all, both teams collected a total of ten hits, maybe a bit bleary eyed after ending last night's game around Midnight.
Sioux Falls 10 Milwaukee 9
After being down 7-1 early in the ball game, the Canaries storm back, eventually taking the lead on a two run opposite field bloop double by Jordan Barth that proved to be the difference. Barth had three hits including two triples and knocked in five runs. Matt Ruiz, Peter Zimmerman and Mike Hart all homered for the Canaries. Erik Ostberg homered for the Milkmen. Ostberg had four runs batted in. Christian Cosby picked up the save, his sixth, with a scoreless ninth, lowering his ERA to 0.79
Sioux City 2 Gary SouthShore 1
In what has been the theme for both teams this season, in the game I was at, the Explorers manage just enough hitting to win, while the RailCats lose a one run game and once again wonder, what if? The RailCats led after the first after Jairus Richards reached on an infield single, stole second and scored on an Olivier Basabe single. That held till the ninth thanks to eight shutout innings from RailCats starter Spencer Adams. But the RailCats went to Cody Reed in the ninth and the wheels came off. Henry George beat Reed to first base on an infield single. Zach Vooletich was hit by a pitch and after two wild pitches the game was knotted at one. The RailCats chose to load the bases via two intentional walks, but Josh Day singled to walk it off. Kyle Marman went from a potential hard luck loser to getting a complete game win allowing the one run on six hits while striking out six.
Kansas City 10 Lincoln 3 Late
The Monarchs are up 10-3 on the Saltdogs in the eighth inning at the time of this publishing.
Kane County 6 Chicago 5
The Cougars, down most of the game, get a three run double from Josh Allen to pull within a run in the seventh. That set the stage for a game tying home run from Claudio Finol in the eighth inning. After getting two runs in the 10th, Jake Gozzo managed to hold on to record the save. Henry Kusiak homered twice and drove in three runs for the Dogs.
