American Association Insider: July 4, 2025
I hope that all of you that have better jobs than me and had the day off today enjoyed themselves. A full slate of series started today/tonight
Lake Country 8 Cleburne 7
The only day game on the slate saw the DockHounds continue their mastery over the Railroaders. Lots of early excitement as the DockHounds took a 7-4 lead after three innings. It got quiet after that until the Railroaders scored three in the eighth to tie the game. In a game with 15 combined runs, it was a sacrifice fly by Brian Rey that put the DockHounds ahead. Eric Torres pitched a scoreless ninth in spite of walking two batters to pick up his 11th save. Ryan Hernandez and Hayden Dunhurst homered for the DockHounds. Aaron Altherr homered for the Railroaders while Jesus Lujano went 4-5 with three runs batted in.
Chicago 5 Kane County 3
Led by a 3-4 effort by Jacob Maiben, Derek's brother, and a home run by T.J. Hopkins, the Dogs emerged victorious at Impact Field. Marcus Chiu continued his hot streak for the Cougars with his fourth home run in the last two games. Jacob DeLabio picked up his eighth save, preserving the game for John Baker who picked up his sixth win allowing two runs in 5.2 innings.
Sioux City 4 Gary SouthShore 0
The Explorers had to like what they saw from Angel Macuare making his Sioux City debut. Macuare went four innings as he has not been stretched out yet. But in his limited outing Macuare didn't allow a hit and struck out five batters. Austin Davis went 3-4 with an RBI, and a run batted in, and Osvaldo Tovalin hit his first home run of the season. Andres Diaz took the loss for the RailCats but gave the bullpen the night off, throwing all eight innings.
Kansas City 13 Lincoln 9
You usually don't associate a snowman with the Fourth of July, but one showed up on the scoreboard tonight as the Monarchs put eight on the scoreboard in the fifth inning. They needed it as the Saltdogs tallied eight runs in the last three innings to put a scare into the Monarch faithful. Alvaro Gonzalez drove in three runs, Josh Bissonette went 3-5 with two runs batted in. Micah Pries homered for the second time in four games (I'm telling you, he'll be an impact player unless he gets snatched up by an MLB team). Gonzalez and Jorge Bonafacio also went deep for the Monarchs. Clint Coulter homered for the Monarchs while Jack Cone went 3-3 and Neyfy Castillo went 2-4 with three runs batted in for the Saltdogs.
Milwaukee 8 Sioux Falls 6 (7 innings)
This was the first time I can remember the Canaries being home for the Fourth of July since 2020 when they opened the 2020 season at home against St. Paul. It ended up being a forgettable night as rain and lightning first played havoc with the game and then got the post game fireworks cancelled, disappointing a crowd of 2506. Five runs in the third and three more in the sixth got the job done for the Milkmen. Sioux Falls made a rally to get within two runs, but the game was called with two outs and nobody on in the last of the eighth inning, with momentum in favor of the Canaries. The Milkmen scored eight runs in spite of only have six hits, but free passes killed the Canaries as they issued eight.
Fargo-Moorhead 7 Winnipeg 1
Jake Dykoff, the Bluffton Braves product, remains on a roll. Last week's pitcher of the week threw six shutout innings allowing two walks and striking out 10 Goldeyes. Dillon Thomas collected three hits and Jose Sermo homered for the RedHawks in a rain delayed game that wrapped up around Midnight.
