American Association Insider: July 31, 2025
Since I'm one of the few people associated with baseball in Minnesota that didn't get traded today, I'm still around to give you your nightly recaps. And oh boy what a night it was. You had threats on league records, milestone managerial wins and one of the craziest finishes you'll ever see.
Sioux City 9 Kansas City 8 (8 innings)
When we last met last night, I had described the situation as bunk. But fast forward to today and things have a way of working out, at least in the eyes of the Explorers. Luis Toribio came in to pinch hit with the bases loaded from last night. Toribio hit a dramatic grand slam to tie the game at eight. The next two Explorers reached setting the stage for a game winning Torin Montgomery sacrifice fly. Safe to say, grand slams have not been kind to the Monarchs in the last week. The win was managerial win #600 for manager Steve Montgomery.

Kane County 9 Chicago 4
Who needs a balanced attack when you have two batters as hot as Marcus Chiu and Todd Lott. The pair accounted for all nine runs batted in for the Cougars as they defeated the Dogs at Impact Field. Chiu went 3-5 with a double and two home runs and four runs driven in. Lott meanwhile was 4-5 with a double and three home runs. Lott ended up one home run short of the single game league record held by John Allen of Fort Worth on August 18, 2008. With the road sweep, the Cougars have caught Cleburne for third place in the East.
Lake Country 4 Cleburne 1
The DockHounds never trailed in this one as they completed the sweep of the Railroaders at Kamp Oconomowoc. Ryan Hernandez homered and Luke Hansel picked up his eighth win throwing seven innings only allowing a run on eight hits. With the win, the DockHounds have stretched their lead in the East Division to four games.
Gary SouthShore 10 Sioux Falls 0
And this is why you should never gamble on baseball. After sweeping the East leading DockHounds, the Canaries were swept by the last place RailCats. Tonight's game was the worst of the three as the Canaries ended up being outscored in the series 20-3. Jairus Richards connected on a three run home run for the RailCats in the first and they never looked back. L.J. Castillo had a two run home run in the third. Joe Suozzi had a solo home run and Elvis Peralta struck for a three run shot in the fourth. Spencer Adams picked up his fourth win throwing six innings allow no runs on five hits, striking out nine Canaries.
Lincoln 7 Milwaukee 1
Two streaks came to an end at Haymarket Park as the Milkmen had their five game winning streak halted while the Saltdogs ended a six game slide. With the game tied at one in the last of the fifth, the Saltdogs scored six times and never looked back. Neyfy Castillo collected three hits to conclude his month of July that saw him raise his average from .219 to .262. Franny Cobos picked up the win allowing a run in six innings thrown.
Kansas City 2 Sioux City 1
This one had the atmosphere of a playoff game at Lewis and Clark Park. If these two teams meet up in the playoffs, fans will be in for a real treat. The difference in this game was a play in the top of the 10th. John Nogowski tagged from third and would've been out from Sneaky's to The Wheelhouse, but the throw home skidded by Kurtis Byrne. The Explorers could not execute in the last of the tenth allowing the Monarchs to salvage one game in the series. They will be happy to get home after a 2-5 road trip where they'll face the suddenly skidding Sioux Falls Canaries.
