American Association Insider: July 30, 2025
Six games in all across the league on Wednesday night. I should be on with Dan Vaughan on the Sioux City Explorers pregame tomorrow night on KSCJ talking American Association Baseball.
Sioux City 4 Kansas City 2
With the game resumed, Jorge Bonifacio homered to left to give the Monarchs a 2-1 lead. But the Explorers got the running game going in the bottom of the frame, taking the lead 3-2 on a Josh Day sacrifice fly. The Explorers added another run in the eighth on a Henry George RBI double. From there the Explorers 1-2 of Chase Jessee and Felix Cepeda shut the door on the Monarchs.
Kansas City 8 Sioux City 4 (suspended in eighth inning of seven inning game)
In rainy conditions that made it tough for pitchers to throw strikes, Kansas City took advantage and scored six runs in the top of the eighth. Remember, it was a scheduled seven inning game. Sioux City had cut the lead to 8-4 as Monarchs reliever Steffon Moore was scuffling throwing in the same conditions. But, alas the umpires decided to suspend the game. So, tomorrow the game will be picked up with the Monarchs getting the luxury of throwing from a mound in ideal conditions. I agree with Steve Montgomery, this is bunk, my words, not his. Either stop the game at the top of inning knowing mound conditions have deteriorated, or make both teams deal with it. You don't see a bowling tournament where both bowlers are struggling with lane conditions, so the stop the matchup as the second bowler is ready to shoot his tenth frame, and they have the bowler come back tomorrow with perfect lane conditions to finish his game.
Lake Country 5 Cleburne 1
On a night that doesn't do any favor for beer sales, the DockHounds defeated the Railroaders in a snappy two hour eleven minute game. The difference was a four run third inning highlighted by another Brian O'Keefe home run, his second in two nights. Brett Conine picked up his second win going six innings allowing only an unearned run.
Fargo-Moorhead 10 Winnipeg 4
This one was decided early as the RedHawks scored 10 runs in the first three innings and breezed to an easy win at Blue Cross Park. Brendon Dadson hit two home runs, a solo in the first and a three run shot in the second innings. Lamar Sparks had three hits at the top of the RedHawks order. Kolby Kiser got his third win of the season going six innings allowing three runs.
Kane County 8 Chicago 2 (7 innings)
A five run fourth inning broke open a tight and carried the Cougars to their second straight win and five in six games since the All Star break. Zane Spinn drove in two runs with a single in the fourth while Alex McGarry came back to bite his former club with a two run home run. Nick Dalesandro made Cougars broadcaster Conor Clingen look prophetic. Clingen said Dalesandro is ready to break out, and he did going 3-4 with a home run. Jack Fox got the win going six innings, allowing two runs for his second win.
Milwaukee 9 Lincoln 2
Compared to the last three nights, it was a slow night for the Milkmen offense, but it was plenty of runs for a win as they defeated the Saltdogs at Haymarket Park. The Milkmen scored three in the first and second innings. Erik Ostberg hit a two run home run in the second and followed it with a two run single in the second inning. Baron Radcliff connected for his 13th home run as part of a 3-4 night. Andy Blake was a perfect 3-3 with two walks on the night.
Gary SouthShore 9 Sioux Falls 3
In a game delayed by nearly two hours, it was well worth the wait for the RailCats as they defeated Sioux Falls for the second night in a row. Marcos Gonzalez homered twice and drove in five runs. Jairus Richards drove in three runs for the RailCats. Dawson Lane picked up the win in relief throwing five shutout innings. Josh Rehwaldt and Jordan Barth both homered for the Canaries.
