American Association Insider: July 24, 2025
I was going to give myself the rest of the week off, but things worked out and my tens of readers are going to get their recaps tonight. Sorry for the hiatus, I hope you enjoyed the Sunday Insider tribute to Jeff Bittiger. Well today, we lost another icon, albeit in a much different line of work. Hulk Hogan's death rocked me a bit as someone that is having trouble coming to grips with being on the wrong side of 50. I've been binge watching shows and games from the 1980's and there was nobody more iconic in the 1980's than Hulk Hogan. Tonight's recaps will have drops from his iconic theme song, Real American.
Kane County 13 Kansas City 4
When it comes crashing down and it hurts inside, you gotta take a stand it don't help to hide. The Cougars after a difficult season that sees them in fourth in the East, took a stand against the Monarchs, winning 13-4 at Northwestern Medicine Field. Claudio Finol raised his average to .279 with a four hit effort. All Star Armond Upshaw had three hits and drove in two runs. Julian Garcia who had been brilliant for the Monarchs allowed nine runs and did not get through the fifth inning for the first time since June 2.
Winnipeg 6 Chicago 5
I got something deep inside of me, courage is the thing that keeps me free. The Goldeyes had the courage to hold on to the lead, with the final out landing in Max Murphy's glove on the warning track to defeat Chicago at Blue Cross Park. Murphy led the Goldeyes driving in three runs, and Jacob Robson had three hits and a couple of runs scored. Reggie Pruitt Jr. had a perfect night going 4-4 and Brantley Bell had three hits for the Dogs.
Sioux Falls 7 Lake Country 1
If you hurt my friends, then you hurt my pride, I gotta lend a hand, it don't help to hide. Cade Torgerson lent a big hand to the Canaries, going six innings allowing only one run against a potent DockHounds lineup. It was his second start in a row going six innings allowing a run for a team in need of a solid #3 starter. Jabari Henry homered and Mike Hart drove in four runs and scored a pair of runs for the Canaries.
Sioux City 8 Gary SouthShore 3
Fight for what's right, fight for my life. In a 3-3 game in the seventh inning, the Explorers fought for their life by stealing seven bases, part of a league record tying 15 for the game. D'Shawn Knowles led the theft spree with four stolen bases with Henry George swiping three of his own. It led to a night where the Explorers scored eight runs while collecting only four hits.
Cleburne 10 Milwaukee 3
Train, say your prayers and eat your vitamins. The Railroaders appropriately train-ed for this this one, laying a leg drop like 10 runs on the Milkmen at La Moderna Field. Chris Kwitzer homered and drove in three runs for the home team while Jesus Lujano had his seventh 3+ hit night in 29 games at the top of the order. Dakota Chalmers got the win allowing a pair of runs in six innings in spite of walking six.
I'm not sure if you'll see recaps tomorrow or Saturday as I might be on the road, we'll see. Of course there will be a Sunday Insider as I recap my time at the All Star Game in Fargo.
