American Association Insider: July 2, 2025

Tonight's recaps were done while I'm covering a rain delayed Townball game that started at 8pm and features a combined 20 walks as of press time. Safe to say, plenty of time to get them done and thankful for the Press Box having WiFi. Rob Pannier would be proud of my double tasking.

 Milwaukee 2 Cleburne 0

The boys weren't being paid by the hour at Franklin Field as the game was faster than a Happy Hour at the Umbrella Bar. The teams combined for 11 hits in the game that was clocked at an hour and 58 minutes. Erik Ostberg homered and Micker Adolfo had the other RBI for the Milkmen. Juan Diaz had his longest outing of the season, seven innings of shutout ball allowing five hits to pick up the win. Mike Shawaryn was the hard luck loser allowing both runs in eight innings of work as the Railroaders once again did not have to go to the bullpen.

Lake Country 3 Chicago 2

It was a similar script at Kamp Oconomowoc as the DockHounds only needed two hours and 13 minutes to once again defeat the Dogs. A Dogs error in the sixth inning proved to be the difference as it brought in the DockHounds third run of the game. Robert Gsellman picked up the win going three scoreless innings in relief lowering his ERA to  0.90 in twenty innings of work. Eric Torres picked up his tenth save lowering his ERA to 0.45. Demetrius Sims battling a long slump homered for the DockHounds. Andy Nelson hit his third home run for the Dogs. Jack Nedrow pitched well once again for Chicago but suffered the loss allowing three runs, two earned in six innings.

Sioux Falls 8 Lincoln 7

The Canaries pounced on the Saltdogs and led 8-2 after four innings but held on for dear life at the end to even the series at one game at the Birdcage. Mike Hart had a two run home run in the first for the Canaries and Scott Combs and Joe Vos led the Birds with three hits apiece. Travis Dorminy picked up the win in spite of a short outing allowing four runs in five innings. Jhon Vargas took the loss allowing all eight runs in five innings.

Gary SouthShore 6 Kansas City 0

Seriously, is it time to break up the RailCats. The Cats guaranteed a series win by shutting out the Monarchs at U.S. Steel Yard. Peyton Long made his bid for pitcher of the week with a complete game three hit shutout over the hard hitting Monarchs. It's Long's fourth win of the  Jake Guenther of the RailCats had himself a night with a three hit effort including a three run home run in the fifth inning.

Sioux City 7 Kane County 4

Kane County had a one run lead going into the last of the sixth, but it was all Explorers again as they scored a pair in the sixth and seventh to notch their league leading 31st win of the season. Josh Day had a night going 2-4 with a solo home run and two RBI. Cade Parker homered in his first professional game wearing the retired Galli Cribbs Jr. #1, a three run shot. Jake Wetherbee picked up his sixth win, tying him with many for the league lead, pitching 6.2 innings allowing four earned runs. Felix Cepeda picked up his 12th save with a scoreless ninth inning.

You can catch me tomorrow on the KSCJ Explorers pregame show as Dan Vaughan and I discuss all things American Association.
