American Association Insider: Sunday June 15
Happy Father's Day for all you dads out there whether it's regular dads, step dads, or in my case dog dads. A full slate around the league today, plus the AA Insider Power Rankings that I didn't get around to putting in the Sunday Insider.
Sioux Falls 10 Kane County 6
A seven run second inning and a three run ninth got the job done as the Canaries won their sixth game in a row, all on the road as part of a nine game road trip. Peter Zimmerman, Jordan Barth and Cal Estrada all homered for the Canaries. Estrada drove in four runs and has quietly moved into a tie for third for RBI's tying Isiah Gilliam of Kansas City with 31 and his 356 batting average is fifth in the league. Two weeks after writing his retirement eulogy, Ryan Zimmerman picked up the win getting two outs allowing just a walk. 5559 saw it at Northwestern Medicine Field.
Lake Country 8 Fargo-Moorhead 3
A sixth run fifth was the dagger as the DockHounds took the rubber game of the series and wrapped up a successful road trip with a 4-2 record. 4006 were on hand at Newman Outdoor Field. The big blow in the fifth inning was a three run Demetrius Sims home run, his fourth of the season. Chris Jefferson allowed two runs in six innings to pick up his first win of the season. American Association veteran Tyler Wilson had his first RedHawks outing since 2020 pitching a scoreless inning. Wilson will help fill the void left from Alex DuBord going to Mexico.
Chicago 11 Cleburne 2
The Dogs finished off a sweep of the Railroaders and in the process tie the Roaders for second place in the East trailing the Lake Country DockHounds by 2 games. A five run fifth inning broke open a 1-1 game and the Dogs never looked back. Dusty Stroup drove in five runs with a two run single in the fifth and a three run home run in the seventh. T.J. Hopkins also homered and drove in three runs. Jeff Lindgren earned his second win going six innings allowing one run and striking out nine. In a statistical oddity, Lindgren has now faced the Railroaders in his last three starts winning two of them for his two wins in the 2025 season. 6821 enjoyed Father's Day baseball at Impact Field.
Sioux City 4 Lincoln 3
The Explorers walked off the Saltdogs on a bases loaded two out single by Abdiel Layer. In his third game as an Explorer, Armando Alvarez homered and drove in two runs in a 3-4 effort at the plate. Alvarez, a former Major leaguer who started the season in AAA with St. Paul, has a chance to be the guy that makes Explorers fans forget about John Nogowski. The Explorers bullpen did not allow a hit in four innings of work. 1333 saw it at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park.
Milwaukee 7 Kansas City 6 (10 innings)
The Milkmen salvaged the final game of the series with the Milkmen in a back and forth affair. Glenn Santiago got a hit in his 23nd consecutive game, breaking the Milkmen record of 22 set by Bryan Torres (thanks for that nugget, Tom Wynn). Santiago went 2-4 with a run scored, Andy Blake homered and went 3-4 for the Milkmen. Jorge Bonifacio went 2-4 with a home run and four runs batted in and John Nogowski went 3-4 with a run scored. 2235 saw it at Legends Field.
Gary SouthShore 9 Winnipeg 1
The RailCats used a five run third inning highlighted by a Jake Guenther grand slam to take the final game of their weekend series and avoid being swept in their entire homestand. 3287 came out to US Steel Yard to see it. Peyton Long picked up his third win throwing six innings of one run ball. A great improvement from his 2024 season where he won four the entire season consisting of 21 starts. Long's three wins are 1/3 of the RailCats total of nine for the season.
