American Association Insider: June 3, 2025

In spite of what was an eventful Monday with former Sioux City slugger John Nogowski signing with Kansas City, the American Association version of Johnny Damon moving from the Red Sox to the Yankees, it was not enough to take me away from a day off. Especially with a RedHawks win over the Monarchs being the only action. But we were back to a full slate of games on Tuesday.

Sioux Falls 6 Sioux City 3

Both starters Zach Willeman of Sioux City and Travis Dorminy of Sioux Falls were excellent in their six inning outings, each allowing a single run. It was a five run seventh inning including a three run home run for Josh Rehwaldt that was the difference. A Josh Day home run and a run scoring single got the Explorers within three but closer Brady Stover shut down the door, striking out the only batter he faced to end the game. 761 saw it at the Birdcage.

Milwaukee 8 Lincoln 4

A Kyle Battle home run in the first inning got the Saltdogs on the board for the first time since Saturday. A three run home run by Andy Blake gave the Milkmen a 3-2 in the second inning. Danny Bautista Jr. homered to tie the game in the third, but it was all Milkmen from there. A wild pitch and a Glenn Santiago two run single gave the Milkmen the lead in the fourth. The Milkmen tacked on two more in the sixth. 603 were in the Milk Cooler to see it.

Kane County 5 Winnipeg 0

The Cougars have not allowed a run in 18 innings after shutting out the Goldeyes on Tuesday night. Chris Mazza has only allowed a run in his last three starts totaling 19 inning but didn't have a win to show for it until tonight. A 1-0 game was broke open by a three run eighth inning by Kane County highlighted by a two run Josh Allen single. 1898 went downtown to the Fishbowl to see the game.

Kansas City 7 Fargo-Moorhead 4

The Monarchs bounced back from a 14-7 loss on Monday to defeat the RedHawks in front of 2250 at the Hawks Nest. Colton Davis was victimized for six runs in 3.1 innings of work for Fargo. Jhailyn Ortiz had three hits and four other Monarchs collected two hits apiece to pace a 14 hit attack for the night. The RedHawks made it interesting in the ninth but could not complete the comeback. Aidan Byrne who I'm guessing was a Tink Larson recommendation had 2 hits to continue his hot start as a RedHawk.

Chicago 7 Cleburne 0

Jeff Lindgren had what had to be the most impressive pitching outing of the night throwing seven shutout innings allowing just one hit to one of the most dangerous hitting lineups in all of the American Association. Three runs in the fifth and a two run Johnni Turbo single in the sixth inning was more than enough offense for Lindgren and two relievers as they held the Railroaders to just two hits on the evening. 1067 made it out to the Pasta Bowl to witness it.

Lake Country 3 Gary SouthShore 3

The DockHounds and RailCats had their night ended in the seventh inning. The game will resume at 5pm on Tuesday night.

I'll be posting very late or possibly not at all tomorrow night. The St. Paul Saints are celebrating 10 years of CHS Field on Wednesday night. And I figure since I was there for much of its first six seasons, I should show up for my first time this season.
