American Association Insider: June 29, 2025
A full slate of games that seemed to be in danger for a while as storms went through Kansas City pushing the game back by an hour.
Kane County 8 Chicago 4
It must've been the SpongeBob jerseys that did the trick at a hot Northwestern Medicine Field. Cougars manager George Tsamis won his 1000th game in June of 2018 wearing the famous Charlie Brown Yellow jersey with the zig zag around it. After the Cougarstook a 1-0 lead in the first inning, the Dogs did something that few teams have been able to do to Konnor Ash, scoring three runs. Ash settled down after that going seven innings allowing just five hits. Ash now leads the league in wins with six. The Cougars took back the lead with five runs in the fourth. Tripp Clark drove in a pair with a single and Claudio Finol doubled in two more runs, part of a 2-4 day with three runs batted in. Trendon Craig led of the game with a home run and had three hits for the day. Although there has been no official announcement made, its appears like today was the last day in the professional baseball career of Galli Cribbs Jr. There has been nobody finer with the glove at shortstop in the American Association.
Fargo-Moorhead 6 Lincoln 5
The RedHawks were left for dead after seven innings trailing 5-1. They stormed back with two runs in the eighth on home runs by Lamar Sparks and Nicholas Northcut and topped the comeback with a dramatic three run home run from Dillon Thomas to win the game and take the weekend set at Haymarket Park. Parker Harm pitched a scoreless ninth to pick up his first save and lowered his ERA to 0.79.
Gary SouthShore 7 Kansas City 3
Have the RailCats found something this weekend in Kansas? They have won two out of three and nearly came back to win the other game. They will have a wraparound game on Monday at Legends Field with the opportunity to go three out of four against the Monarchs. The RailCats used the long ball in the sixth inning to break a 3-3 deadlock with Jake Guenther, Baron Radcliff and Jairus Richards all hitting solo bombs. Joe Suozzi had a perfect 3-3 day at the plate and Olivier Basabe drove in three runs. Josh Bissonette had three hits for the Monarchs.
Sioux City 14 Sioux Falls 3
The Explorers put this game away early. Five runs in the first inning highlighted by a Nick Shumpert grand slam and a total of nine in the first three innings left the outcome not in doubt. Shumpert went 3-5 with five runs driven in. For the week Shumpert went 11-25 with four home runs and 14 runs driven in. Austin Davis also had a three hit day out of the nine spot in the order. Kyle Marman was able to cruise through seven innings allowing three runs to pick up his third win. Calvin Estrada left the game with an apparent injury thus ending his 24 game hitting streak.
Lake Country 11 Cleburne 5
There is no truth to the rumor that the Railroaders paid to have someone pack up the DockHounds luggage and have it ready right after the game to make sure they got out of town. The DockHounds took five out of six games to drop the Railroaders to two games under .500 and only a half game out of fourth. Meanwhile the DockHounds are now in first by two games over Chicago with the Dogs coming to Wisconsin Brewing Company Field for a showdown this week. Ray Zuberer III homered twice and drove in three runs on a 3-5 night at the plate. Imanol Vargas has remained scorching hot in his brief American Association career going 3-5 with a two run home run. Ryan Hernandez also homered for the DockHounds. Aaron Altherr homered and drove in three runs for the Railroaders. In spite of only going five innings and allowing five runs, two earned, Luke Hansel tied Konnor Ash for the league lead with six wins.
