American Association Insider: June 28, 2025
It was the last Saturday of June and we had a full slate of games in the American Associaiton. The big news of the day involved a trade. Fargo-Moorhead acquired slugger Jose Sermo from Cleburne in exchange for veteran reliever Tyler Wilson. Wilson returns to the Railroaders where he pitched in parts of four different seasons. Fargo's offense gets a badly needed boost and the Railroaders bullpen gets a familiar arm back.
Sioux Falls 8 Sioux City 5
The Canaries took a 3-0 lead in the first inning, and in spite of the Explorers getting within two runs in the seventh, never trailed. In a rarity at the Birdcage, no Canaries had a home run, but Calvin Estrada singled in the first inning to extend his hitting streak to 24 games. Zach Vooletich homered for Sioux City, a three run shot as the Explorers tried to rally. Brendan Knoll picked up the win going six innings, allowing a run to pick up his fifth win.
Fargo-Moorhead 5 Lincoln 0
In his third start of the season, Jake Dykhoff pitched a complete game shutout as the RedHawks defeated the Saltdogs 5-0 at Haymarket Park. Hunter Clanin went deep versus his old ball club. In a 2-0 game in the ninth, Lamar Sparks hit a two run home run followed by a solo shot by Sermo, paying immediate dividends for his new club. Dykhoff allowed two hits and struck out 12, and will likely be receiving league honors on Monday unless someone comes up huge tomorrow.
Milwaukee 8 Winnipeg 6
The Milkmen led 8-2 after four innings and held on to defeat Winnipeg by two at Blue Cross Park. Andy Blake and Erik Ostberg combined to go 6-9 with three home runs, two by Blake, five runs scored and four runs batted in. Joe Gray also had a two run home run for the Milkmen. Davis Welch won his second game going six innings allowing a pair of runs. Jacob Robson had a two run home run for the Goldeyes.
Kane County 13 Chicago 1
This one was all Cougars as three runs in the first inning and five in the fourth inning left the outcome not in doubt. Oscar Santos went 3-4 with five runs batted in, powered by a grand slam in the fourth inning. Tripp Clark went 3-4 with three runs batted in. Westin Muir picked up his fourth win allowing a run in six innings of work.
Kansas City 7 Gary SouthShore 6
The RailCats gave the Monarchs all they could handle for the second night in a row, rallying for a 6-3 deficit to tie the game at six in the ninth inning. But ninth place hitter for the Monarchs, Ryan Leitch hit a walkoff home run to lead off the bottom of the ninth.
Lake Country 12 Cleburne 5
If you looked at this score on the surface, it'd seem like the DockHounds ran away with this one. Definitely not the case as the Railroaders led 5-1 in the sixth inning. It was all DockHounds from there as they scored the last 11 runs of the game including seven in the ninth inning. Ryan Hernandez clubbed a two run home run versus his former club and Aaron Hill drove in three runs. Steven Rivas hit a two run home run and Kyle Martin also homered for the Railroaders.
