American Association Insider: June 26, 2025
Seven games were played through the Association with the double header in Sioux City. There was a loss before the Explorers took the field as ace pitcher Zach Willeman had his contract transferred to the Reds.
Winnipeg 5 Sioux City 4 (Game 1)
Mitchell Lambson only allowed two hits in going the distance in Game one. One of those hits however was a grand slam to Henry George to knot the game at four after the Goldeyes had staked Lambson to a 4-0 lead in the top of the third. With the game knotted at four in the seventh, Jacob Robson singled in a run that proved to be the difference. It was Robson's third run batted in for the game.
Sioux City 1 Winnipeg 0 (Game 2)
A Nick Shumpert single drove in newcomer Carlos Castro to get the Explorers a split of the doubleheader at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park. Jared Wetherbee won his fifth game to tie many for the league lead by throwing six shutout innings allowing two hits. Luke Boyd threw well for the Goldeyes allowing a single run in 5.2 innings to take the hard luck loss.
Milwaukee 1 Fargo-Moorhead 0
On a damp getaway game at Newman Outdoor Field, an Erik Ostberg single drove in Scott Ota for the only run of the game in the sixth inning. Jhordany Mezquita got his fifth win throwing seven shutout innings allowing only two hits. Tyler Jandron was the hard luck loser only allowing the one run in seven innings of work for the RedHawks.
Sioux Falls 2 Chicago 1 (11 innings)
The Dogs and Canaries traded single runs in the fourth inning, other than that it was all about the pitching at Impact Field. Travis Dorminy and Jack Nedrow were both brilliant allowing one run in seven innings of work. A Jordan Barth sacrifice fly in the 11th was the difference as Christian Cosby has still not allowed a run this season in 19.2 innings, pitching two scoreless innings striking out five and picking up his fourth win. Calvin Estrada extended his hitting streak to 22 games with an infield single in the 11th inning.
Cleburne 16 Lake Country 3
The Railroaders end a five game losing streak in a big way as five Railroaders batters drove in two or more runs. Dustin Peterson, Aaron Altherr and Andres Sosa all homered for the Railroaders. Sosa drove in three runs along with Chris Kwitzer. Kwitzer has hits in all three games played with Cleburne. Derek Craft won his fourth game going seven innings allowing a pair of runs.
Kansas City 7 Lincoln 5
A Blake Rutherford RBI single in the ninth inning broke a 5-5 tie and the Monarchs took the final game of the series to end their nine game road trip with a 4-5 record. The Monarchs had jumped out to a 5-0 lead before the Saltdogs struck for five of their own highlighted by a four run eighth inning. Saltdogs third baseman Rolando Espinosa drove in three runs and has nine RBI in his last five games. Julian Garcia only went five innings for the Monarchs but racked up nine more strikeouts after 13 in his last two games.
Kane County 2 Gary SouthShore 1 (10 innings)
The Cougars edged the RailCats to earn the sweep of their series at US Steel Yard. A Claudio Finol single drove in the deciding run in the 10th inning. With the loss the RailCats drop to 10-32 with home and home series coming up with the Kansas City Monarchs on the docket. In 2021, the Houston Apollos were 7-35 after 42 games. The Salina Stockade were 4-38 in 2017 after 42 games , and the Texas AirHogs using overmatched Chinese National players were 8-34. So we've seen worse, but both Salina and Houston were both traveling teams.
