Five new series kicked off tonight with Milwaukee and Fargo-Moorhead continuing their series that began on Monday

Sioux City 7 Winnipeg 6'

It was a tough day in Sioux City for long time supporters of the Explorers and frankly for many of us that have followed the American Association. Dave Nitz who was the Sioux City Explorers play by play voice after the Shreveport-Bossier Captains left the American Association following the 2011 season through 2017, passed away at the age of 82. I got the chance to meet Nitz in the CHS Field Press Box in 2015 and talked to him several times the next few years. You were fine with a rain delay when Sioux City was in town as it meant Dave Nitz story time in the Press Box. I'd like to think he was watching over the Explorers tonight as the Explorers rallied from a 6-0 deficit after half an inning to defeat the Goldeyes on a Nick Shumpert walk off single in the 10th inning. Abdiel Layer hit a three run home run in the second inning to get the Explorers back in the game. Shumpert also homered for the Explorers, a solo shot. Keshawn Lynch drove in three runs for the Goldeyes on a bases clearing double. Explorer fans, in the words of Dave Nitz, "you gotta love it!!!".

Chicago 6 Sioux Falls 4

In a battle between the two hottest teams in the American Association, it was a four run seventh inning for the Dogs that proved to be the difference. Dusty Stroup homered for the Dogs while Calvin Estrada had two hits extending his hitting streak to 20 games, trailing Glenn Santiago by three games for longest hitting streak of the season.

Kane County 5 Gary SouthShore 2

It wasn't the most dominant effort by Konnor Ash but it was good enough. Ash went 5.1 innings allowing a pair of runs earning his fifth win of the season as the Cougars broke a three game losing streak. Todd Lott went 2-5 with a pair of RBI for the Cougars while Jake Guenther homered for the second time this season as part of a three hit night.

Lake Country 8 Cleburne 2

The DockHounds opened a six game set by breaking open a 3-2 game with five runs in the sixth inning. The Railroaders have now dropped the last four games to go 3-4 so far in their 12 game homestand. Brian Rey hit his ninth home run and paced the DockHounds with three runs batted in for the night. Luke Hansel picked up win #5 going six innings allowing a pair of runs.

Lincoln 6 Kansas City 5

Danny Bautista's single in the eighth inning broke a 5-5 tie and gave the Saltdogs their sixth win in their last seven games. Robbie Glendinning had a solo home run for the Monarchs while Yusniel Diaz and Rolando Espinosa both homered for the Saltdogs.

Milwaukee 6 Fargo-Moorhead 2

The Milkmen rallied from a run down in the seventh, scoring three runs to defeat the RedHawks at Newman Outdoor Field. The reeling RedHawks have lost five of seven and are now in what's basically a three way deadlock for fourth place with the RedHawks and Saltdogs tied with 20-22 records and Winnipeg is .001 percectage points behind both clubs. Eric Chalus picked up his first win in four starts allowing two runs in six innings of work, while Kyle Crigger took the loss allowing five runs, three earned in 6.1 innings.
