American Association Insider: June 19, 2025

It was a long and hard to keep track of night in the American Association with three doubleheaders and a continuation of a suspended game.

Sioux City 3 Fargo-Moorhead 2

In a baseball version of the old game show Beat the Clock, with the Explorers down 2-1, a Nick Shumpert sacrifice fly tied the game in the seventh right before a monsoon arrived. Without it, the RedHawks would've won with the game being called official after six inning. In the continuation, it was Shumpert coming through again with a single that proved to be the difference. Felix Cepeda recorded a one out save for his 10th of the season.

Sioux City Fargo-Moorhead (Game 2)

Juan Fernandez homered and drove in a pair of runs as the RedHawks defeated the Explorers to end Sioux City's six game winning streak. Kyle Crigger got the win going six innings allowing three runs on five hits, his fifth win of the season. Colten Davis got the last four outs to pick up his first professional save.

Gary SouthShore 10 Kane County 4

The RailCats evened the series helped by a four run fourth inning aided by a two run single by Joe Suozzi and the other two scoring on a wild pitch and a passed ball. L.G. Castillo hit a two run home run and later added a two run single in a 3-4 effort at the plate. Armand Upshaw hit his second home run of the season to dead center field as part of a three hit game. Spencer Adams got his second win of the season allowing four earned runs in six innings.

Kane County 11 Gary SouthShore 4 (Game 2)

The Cougars returned the favor with a convincing win in Game 2. They led all the way till the Railcats put up four runs in the seventh. Taking a 2-0 lead into the fourth, the Cougars broke it open with a two run Claudio Finol single and a grand slam by Josh Allen. Armond Upshaw drove in three runs and Todd Lott went 3-4. Vin Timpanelli went six plus innings allowing three earned runs to get his first win since the combined no hitter on June 1.

Lincoln 4 Lake Country 0

After being swept in Sioux City, the Saltdogs have shook it off and taken the first two games in the battle of the dogs defeating the DockHounds in Game 1 of the doubleheader. Nate Blain picked up the win pitching five scoreless innings to pick up his fourth win of the season. Brody Fahr homered in the seventh, a two run shot to stretch a 2-0 lead to four runs. Danny Bautista Jr. had two hits for the Saltdogs with nobody else on either team collecting more than one.

Lake Country 6 Lincoln 4 (Game 2)

The DockHounds scored the last four runs of the game to erase a two run deficit and salvage the last game of the three game set. Luke Roskam homered and drove in two runs versus his former team. Clint Coulter homered for the Saltdogs.

Milwaukee 4 Chicago 1

The Milkmen picked up their first win of the season versus the Dogs this season, allowing just one hit en route to the victory. Juan Diaz went five innings allowing a run on just one hit. Micker Adolfo collected three hits and drove in two runs. Glenn Santiago's hitting streak came to an end with an 0-4 game.

Chicago 6 Milwaukee 1 (Game 2)

The Dogs earned the split jumping out to a 5-0 lead after three innings and riding it to victory to go 5-1 versus their border rivals for the season. Austin Marozas started his first game of the season and got the win going five shutout innings allowing just three hits. A quick editorial here. With 12 teams it's hard for me to keep tabs on how all the players are doing. I'll admit I don't watch some teams as much as I should. Chicago is one of those teams. So to my surprise tuning in tonight, I find out that Marozas has now thrown 28.1 innings with allowing an earned run (he allowed two unearned runs on May 18). The league does not have the consecutive innings without allowing an earned run record in its media guide, so I have no idea what the league record is. Though we do know Peyton Gray had 32 scoreless innings in 2020. Rookie Max Moris from St. Thomas hit his first career home run in his fourth game with the Dogs.

Winnipeg 8 Sioux Falls 7

In what is becoming a very competitive rivalry, the Goldeyes scored a pair of unearned runs in the eighth inning to come back and defeat the Canaries and win the series. The Sioux Fall Lumber Company worked OT hitting four home runs. Matt Ruiz, Josh Rehwaldt and two from Scott Combs. The Goldeyes only had one home run but it was a big one from Tanner O'Tremba as his three run shot erased a 4-1 deficit. Roby Enriquez paced the Goldeyes with three hits.

Cleburne 3 Kansas City 2

After both teams knocked the ball around the park the first two games of the series, it was about the pitching as a Shed Long walk off home run won the game for the Railroaders. Austin Faith allowed runs in the first inning on singles to Blake Rutherford and Robbie Glendinning, but shut the door after that going 6.2 innings. A Korry Howell single in the second and a Long double in the fifth evened up the game setting the stage for the ninth inning heroics.
