American Association Sunday Insider- May 29, 2025

In what was a record breaking night, it was a night for nailbiters throughout the American Association.

Kane County 2 Winnipeg 1 (10 innings)

For nine innings, it was all about the pitching. Cougars starter Konnor Ash was brilliant once again throwing seven shutout innings. Ash's counterpart Jesse Galindo was just as good with six shutout innings of his own. All heck broke loose in the 10th. With the runner at 2nd base to begin the inning, Jacob Robson dropped a bunt that was thrown away landing Robson at third. With one out, Robson attemepted to score on a fly ball to right but was thrown out by Robby Martin Jr. to keep the game within reach. The Cougars got their 2nd base runner thrown out at home trying to score from third on a grounder. Martin Jr. was the next batter. He lofted a fly ball to left field to end the.....not so fast, the ball popped out of Evan Alexander's glove. Todd Lott smoked a two run double and the Cougars won in walk off fashion in front of 2175 .

Cleburne 13 Sioux Falls 5

In spite of a 14 hit, 13 run attack by the Railroaders, this night will go down as the night that Jabari Henry became the all time American Association home run king, toppling his fellow #11 Reggie Abercrombie with a solo Bari Bomb in third inning off of Kade Mechals to claim the top spot in the record books. It was the only run Mechals would allow in five innings to get the win. The Railroaders put the game away in the third with a seven spot. Three more runs were added in both the fifth and sixth. Kyle Martin homered twice for six on the season. Steven Rivas homered and drove in four runs, while Korry Howell also homered and drove in three of his own. Henry also homered in the eighth and pitched a scoreless ninth inning. 807 witnessed history at the Birdcage.

Sioux City 4 Kansas City 3

The Explorers scored three in the first and never trailed as they won the game and the series, beating the Monarchs in front of 937 at Legends Field. The big hit in the first inning was a two run single off the bat of Joshua Day. The Monarchs got back within one with a two run homer by Joshaun Sandoval. Both teams put up single runs to make it a 4-3 game heading into the last of the ninth. It looked good for the Monarchs. With Jaylyn Williams on first, Josh Bissonette singled to right. It looked like it was going to be first and third, but Williams stumbled around second base and was tagged out in a rundown to end the game. Jared Wetherbee threw six innings allowing three runs and striking out nine for the win.

Gary SouthShore 9 Fargo Moorhead 4

The RailCats scored four runs in the first and never looked back as the RailCats salvaged the last game of the series defeating the RedHawks in front of 2018 at US Steel Yard. Andres Noriega hit a two run home run in the first inning as part of a 2-4, 3 RBI night. Peyton Long hurled six innings allowing only one run to even his mark at 2-2 for the season. Jairus Richards stole two more bases and is now at 14 bags swiped in 14 games played. Watch out Bryan Torres.

Chicago 11 Milwaukee 8

As is to be expected between these two border rivals, the Dogs and Milkmen played another wild game at Impact Field on Thursday. The Dogs jumped out to a 2-0 lead before the Milkmen struck back with five in the fourth inning. The Dogs struck back right away with three in their half of the inning to knot the game at five. A three run sixth by the Milkmen was countered by single runs in the fifth through seventh innings to knot the game at eight. In the last of the eighth, the Dogs took the lead for good with three consecutive run scoring singles. The Dogs had 20 hits for the night highlighted by a six hit night by Brantley Bell, tying a league record for most hits in a game achieved most recently by Josh Rehwaldt two weeks ago against the Dogs. 2888 saw the fireworks on and off the field as it was also the first Fireworks Thursday where the game was delayed for 30 minutes.

I want to thank Dan Vaughan for having me on KSCJ for tonight's Explorers pregame show. If anyone with the teams in the American Association are reading this, reach out, I'm willing to come on and talk baseball  with anyone.
