American Association Insider- Opening night recap
I'm going to try to make this a daily occurrence, but life happens sometimes. Even tonight I had to go mow the lawn at 8pm during the games. Some nights these recaps will have some fun commentary involved. Other nights, it's going to be a color by numbers effort. I would encourage everyone to read the game recaps posted by the teams that take the time to write and post them to their websites o r social media accounts.
Sioux City 2 Kane County 1
In the Cougars first game as defending champions, history was nearly made as the Explorers took a no hitter to the ninth before a Todd Lott single broke it up with a two out single. Kudos to Dan Vaughan to not jinx the no hitter, doing a classic job of dancing around it. Torin Montgomery homered to give the Explorers their first run of the game in an attempt to make X's fans forget about the guy who wore #24 last season. Last year's closer Kyle Marman threw 7 plus no hit innings. 7,302 fans came out on a chilly night in Geneva.
Cleburne 6 Winnipeg 5 (10 innings)
Former Phillies slugger Aaron Altherr hit a two run home run in the 10th Inning to walk off the Goldeyes. The Goldeyes have only 10 pitchers on their roster right now due to injuries and that may have proved to be the difference tonight as Logan Watkins had limited cards to play out of the pen. Landon Bourassa gave the Goldeyes a quality start with three runs in six innings in a no decision. Railroaders Gamelive was still celebrating the opening night win as of this writing, so no attendance number was available. It will be Texas vs. Winnipeg on the ice and on the diamond tomorrow night.
The rest of the league gets going tomorrow night. You'll get a color by numbers coverage the rest of the weekend. I'm not giving up on live hockey this season and will be at a hockey game tomorrow. My wife's birthday is Saturday so sitting in front of my TV watching baseball is not part of her plans. Sunday I'll be covering amateur baseball.
