American Association Insider- May 25, 2025

A full six game slate on Sunday afternoon into early Sunday evening in the American Association. Let's take a whiparound (too soon?) at the action.

Milwaukee 4 Sioux Falls 3

The tone may have been set for the Canaries in the first when they loaded the bases with nobody out and could not cash in. In the second inning the Milkmen cashed in with a RBI single by Willie Escala followed by a two run single by Chase Estep. Erik Ostberg led off the Milkmen third with a solo home run. Sioux Falls chipped away at the lead, highlighted by a Jabari Henry home run in the sixth that ties him with Reggie Abercrombie for the all time lead in American Association home runs. But the Birds fell a run short in front of 977 at Franklin Field.

Gary SouthShore 7 Winnipeg 3

The Railcats got their first series victory of the season defeating Winnipeg in front of 2645 at Blue Cross Park. It may have tough for the Goldeyes to win today as Pointstreak only listed a batting order of six Goldeyes. The Railcats did their damage in the sixth through eighth innings, scoring seven runs. Elvis Peralta had two hits and four runs batted in. In a minor surprise, Jairus Richards got two hits but did not steal a base.

Lake Country 8 Kansas City 3

The DockHounds salvaged the final game of the series at Legends Field. The Dockhounds did their damage in the sixth and seventh innings scoring four times in each frame. Luke Roskam and Brian Rey both homered in the sixth. Ryan Hernandez racked up four hits in the winning effort. Luke Hansel continues his strong start going six innings with only one unearned run allowed.

`Lincoln 4 Chicago 2

The Saltdogs prevent a sweep and ends Chicago's three game winning streak with a two run at Impact Field with 4089 on to see it. The seventh inning was the decisive frame as the Saltdogs put up three runs. Danny Bautista Jr. homered for the Saltdogs as part of an attack that only had three hits that produced the four runs.

Fargo Moorhead 6 Sioux City 3

It looked good early for the Explorers as they took a 3-1 lead in the third inning, highlighted by an Abdiel Layer two run home run, but it was all Fargo Moorhead from there as they scored the final five runs to take the series in front of 1265 on some of the 15% of Iowa land that is not farm land, Lewis and Clark Park. Robert Perez Jr. and Dillon Thomas both had three hits to lead a 11 hit RedHawks attack. Alex DuBord pitched a perfect ninth for his seventh save.

Kane County 14 Cleburne 8

It looked like a comfortable win for the Cougars as they led 11-2 going into the last of the eighth inning. The Railroaders made it interesting a sixth run eighth highlighted by a grand slam by Steven Rivas. Every Cougar had at least one hit in their 14 hit attack, highlighted by Josh Allen who went 2-3 with three walks and Thomas Jones (2-5 with 4 RBI). 1492 saw it at La Moderna Field.

I hope everyone has used and will use this Memorial Day weekend for its intended purpose, remembering those who served and died in service defending our freedoms that we enjoy today.
