American Association Insider- May 20, 2025
It was a five game day/night in the American Association. Two games were contested in front of primarily school children while three night games and one rainout were part of the evening festivities.
Chicago vs. Fargo Moorhead PPD
Cleburne 3 Kane County 1
Kind of curious as to why Kane County would play a morning game in Cleburne right away after making the long trip down, but I don't write the schedule and I usually get a talking to when I criticize it. Cleburne took a 2-0 lead on a two run single by Lamar Sparks. A Todd Lott single got the Cougars within one in the sixth inning but the Railroaders got their two run cushion back in the seventh on a Shed Long home run. Six Railroaders pitchers combine to allow one run on five hits while striking out 11 in the victory. A real good crowd of 2254 saw it at La Moderna Field.
Kansas City 16 Lincoln 12
In Big 8 football action, a touchdown gave the Jayhawks enough breathing room in a conference matchup against the Cornhuskers. The middle of the Monarchs lineup was unstoppable as Jorge Bonifacio, Isiah Gilliam and Robbie Glendinning were a combined 11-15 with 11 runs batted in and 10 runs scored. The Saltdogs were led by Kyle Battle who homered twice and drove in five. 5287 fans, primarily school kids were on hand.
Lake Country 3 Sioux Falls 2 (10 innings)
The Canaries are going to look back and bemoan wasted opportunities late in the game. Tied at two in the ninth, the Canaries could not cash in a one out triple by Jordan Barth. In the 10th, the Canaries loaded the bases with nobody out but three strikeouts in a row ended the inning with nobody coming across. The DockHounds seized the opportunity in the bottom of the frame as a Daunte Stuart single walked off the Canaries. 527 tickets sold, about 72 on hand at Wisconsnin Brewing Company Park on a cold and wet evening.
Sioux City 3 Gary SouthShore 1
A Luis Toribio two run home run gave Kyle Marman all the offensive support he needed as the Explorers defeated the Railcats in front of an announced crowd of 455 at Lewis and Clark Park. Marman threw six shutout innings allowing six hits and striking out eight Railcats. Explorers pitchers struck out 14 Railcats.
Winnipeg 3 Milwaukee1
The Goldeyes finally got back home and made it count, winning on the heels of a two run eighth inning. Veterans Max Murphy and Jacob Robson both had RBI singles in the decisive eighth. Both teams were held to a combined 10 hits for the evening.
Notes:
If you're with a team in the American Association and you'd like to see your player's pictures in this blog, please reach out to me. Jennifer Andreachi has been beneficial helping me out but she hasn't shot many teams this season.
