American Association Insider- May 18, 2025

It was all matinee tilts as we saw six games across the American Association as we already near the 10% mark of the season. I was covering the local Townball team today so this may be a pretty basic league recap for today.

Kane County 5 Milwaukee 1

After losing five games in a row, the Cougars bounced back to win their last two and win their first series of the season, defeating the Milkmen in front of a strong Sunday crowd of 6421 at Northwestern Medicine Field. The Cougars scored single runs in five of the eight innings at bat. Meanwhile Konnor Ash and the Cougars bullpen shut the Milkmen down while striking out 13 batters. For those watching the broadcast today, no I likely not watch all 600 games this season, but I appreciate the shout-out by Conor Clingen.

Lake Country 3 Fargo Moorhead 2

A manufactured run in the last of the seventh inning was the difference as the DockHounds won the game and series on Sunday in front of 1017 at Wisconsin Brewing Company Field. Daunte Stuart singled, stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error, scoring on a wild pitch. On a personal note, I'm not a fan of the white on white home jerseys being worn by Lake Country. It would be a perfect and cleaner look if the numbers and font on the front of the jerseys were not also white. It works out on TV, but I wonder what it looks like in person?.

Winnipeg 5 Lincoln 0

The Goldeyes concluded their three city beginning of the season road trip with a 5-0 victory in front of 2195 at Haymarket Park. Landen Bourassa went the entire way for the Goldeyes, shutting out the Saltdogs on five hits, a nice bounce back after a tough start in KC on Tuesday. Two runs in the second and fifth innings gave Bourassa all the support he needed getting the complete game while only throwing 98 pitches.

Gary SouthShore 7 Cleburne 5

The RailCats salvaged a second win out of their six game set against the Railroaders. The RailCats led 7-2 after four innings before the Railroaders embarked on what seems to be their daily late inning rally. Today's rally however was not quite enough as the Roaders scored three before the RailCats could get the final out in the ninth. 1745 saw it at U.S. Steel Yard.

Sioux Falls 11 Chicago 4

Sioux Falls for the third game in a row ambushed the Dogs in the early innings taking a 7-1 lead after two innings. Brendan Knoll allowed only two runs in six innings to make the run support stick. Josh Rehwaldt homered for his third game in a row going 11-14 with two walks, three home runs and eight runs driven in for the weekend. Mike Hart and Trevor Achenbach also went deep for the Canaries. Jacob Teter and Clint Coulter both homered for the Dogs. 801 witnessed it at the Birdcage

Kansas City 7 Sioux City 3

A tie game in the ninth inning blew up as the Monarchs scored five in the ninth inning to pull away from the Explorers to take the rubber game of the series in front of 1053 at Lewis and Clark Park. Ryan Leitch gave the Monarchs the lead in the ninth with a two run home run. Two unearned runs later in the inning provided the Monarchs with a comfortable lead. Abdiel Layer and Torin Montgomery homered for the Explorers in the losing effort.

It's a league wide day off and a day off for me before six series begin on Tuesday.
