Saturday night's alright for baseball in the American Association as there was seven games in the league due to the doubleheader in Sioux City
Kansas City 3 Sioux City 2 Game 1
It was a tight one at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park in game one of the doubleheader. The Explorers were able to scratch out a run against a dominant Julian Garcia ( 6 IP, 1 ER, 11 K). But the Monarchs took the lead for good when Robbie Glendinning was able to get a ball through a drawn in infield to score two runs. The Monarchs added one in the ninth and it loomed large as the Explorers scored once and had the bases loaded in the seventh but Jake Brentz came in and struck out two and induced a fly out to lock down the game.
Sioux City 1 Kansas City 0
As is tradition with doubleheaders, the second game followed the first game. This one was all about the pitchers as Sioux City's Jared Wetherbee and Kansas City's Ashton Gaudeau matched zeros throughout. Jeremy Goins took over in the seventh for the Explorers and shut down the Monarchs setting the stage for the winning rally as Henry George doubled with one out and scored on a single by Nick Shumpert. 1388 took it in at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park.
Cleburne 10 Gary SouthShore 6
As has been the theme throughout the six game set between these divisional rivals, the Railroaders made their move late in the game. The Roaders broke open a 2-2 game with eight runs in the final three frames to take home the win in front of 2413 at U.S. Steel Yard. Dustin Peterson went 2-5 with four runs batted in and Kyle Martin hit his fourth home run of the year as part of a 3-5 day with three runs batted in. Jairus Richards went 2-4 with four runs batted in for the RailCats.
Fargo Moorhead 2 Lake Country 0
In a rare sight at a hitter friendly ballpark, it was a 2 hour, 13 minute quicky at Wisconsin Brewing Company Park in front of 1539. Greg Minier (6.1 IP, 4 H) outdueled Brett Conine (2 ER, 8 K). The only scoring in the game came off the bat of Alec Olund who drove in both runs with a double in the third inning. Alec DuBord worked out of a mini jam in the ninth to record his fourth save of the season.
Chicago 9 Sioux Falls 8
The Dogs bounced back from a 22-0 thumping on Friday night and and early 6-1 deficit to beat the Canaries. Hunter Clanin, Mike Hart and Ernny Ordonez all homered in the first inning for the Canaries. The Dogs bit away at the deficit before taking the lead for good in the fifth inning. A two run home run by Alex McGarry was followed later by a grand slam from Kyle Schmack who was not in the original starting lineup. Sioux Falls got back to within a run in the ninth, but with runners on first and second base with one out a head scratching attempted double steal was thwarted and the final out was soon after recorded with the tying run on second.
Kane County 11 Milwaukee 1
Going into the game tonight, the Cougars had not hit a home run this season. That changed on Saturday night as Oscar Santos and Robby Martin both homered as Kane County scored 11 runs in the last four innings after the Milkmen had take a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth. In a couple of other encouraging signs for the Cougars, Westin Muir got the win allowing the one run in six innings of work and original Cougar Jack Fox made his 2025 debut getting the last three outs.
Lincoln 3 Winnipeg 2 (11 innings)
In what was at one time a real quick game turned into a marathon. A Rolando Espinosa home run had Lincoln in the driver's seat the whole through, but the Goldeyes found a way to knot the game up in the ninth inning on an Andy Armstrong single. After the Goldeyes pushed a run across in the eleventh, the Saltdogs struck back with two in the bottom of the inning. With one out and the bases loaded, a grounder to third found Ramon Bramasco fumbling it trying to race to third to attempt a third to first double play to end the game. Espinosa followed with a line drive single to send the crowd of 3836 at Haymarket Park home happy.
