American Association Insider- May 10, 2025
Looks like I got off easy on the wife's birthday. We enjoyed a quick dinner and came home to find out our new leather sofa was coming tonight. Complete with a built in massage and other quirks. It's that easy, guys. New couch, happy wife, happy life. I have a feeling she may be on it for the night. So I was able to take in a bunch of tonight's action in the American Association.
Milwaukee 3 Gary SouthShore 1
This one I was able to get some details from unlike last night. Six shutout innings from Jhordany Mezquita and three runs in the first two innings was enough to get the Milkmen a second win on Saturday night in front of 1332 at Franklin Field. LG Castillo accounted for the only RailCats offense with a solo home run in the seventh inning.
Kane County 2 Sioux City 0.
Former MLB hurler Chris Mazza threw five shutout innings and the Cougars bullpen backed him up with four more zeroes as the Cougars shutout Sioux City to salvage the final game of the series in front of 6486 at Northwestern Medicine Field. We know that it wasn't a great weekend for the Cougars offense but the bullpen was incredible allowing only two runs in 11.2 innings of work. Zach Willeman deserved a better fate allowing two unearned runs in six innings. Willeman is the second member of the back end of the Explorers to put up a great start to begin his season.
Lake Country 10 Chicago 1
The Dockhounds put up a total of 10 runs between the 4th and 7th innings and cruised to a 10-1 victory at Impact Field in front of 4112 at Impact Field. Brian Rey led the attack for the DockHounds going 3-5 at the plate, driving in four runs. Jacob Nix got the win throwing six shutout innings.
Sioux Falls 14 Fargo Moorhead 9
The Canaries took an early lead and never looked back on Saturday night at Newman Outdoor Field in front of 2487 at Newman Outdoor Field. Calvin Estrada, Josh Rehwaldt and Ernny Ordonez all had three hits to lead a 16 hit Canaries attack. RedHawks 2024 stalwart Colten Davis had a rough go in his season debut allowing eight runs in five innings of work. Peter Brookshaw paced the RedHawks attack with three hits and four runs batted in.
Kansas City 9 Lincoln 3
It was a rude awakening for Jair Jurrjens to American Association Baseball as the MLB veteran hurler lasted only 1.2 innings allowing eight runs as the Monarchs defeated Lincoln once again in front of 1935 at Legends Field on Saturday night. Jorge Bonifacio homered for the Monarchs, Isiah Gilliam had two home runs in his four hit effort for the night. Ashton Goudeau went five shutout innings for the win. In nine career starts for the Monarchs over three seasons (regular and post season), Goudeau has won seven games to go with a 1.48 ERA.
Cleburne 5 Winnipeg 2
Winnipeg scored twice in the second period....oops, still in hockey mode. Make that the Goldeyes put up a pair of runs in the second inning, but it was all Cleburne from there as the Railroaders scored five unanswered runs in front of 2188 at La Moderna field. Kyle Martin had another big blow against his former team with a two run double.
